ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: Unstable ankle injuries require anatomical reduction and stabilisation for optimal outcome. In spite of adequate care, a few patients have poor outcome. In this study, we assessed the risk factors that predict the clinical outcomes in surgically treated unstable ankle fractures. Material and methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted on 68 patients who underwent surgical management for an unstable ankle injury. Demographic details, fracture type and associated medical comorbidities were recorded. Pre-operative radiographic assessment was done for all patients. At the end of one year follow-up, clinical (American Orthopaedic foot and ankle societyAOFAS and Olerud-Molander ankle - OMAS) scores and radiological parameters were assessed and analysed. Results: Fracture dislocation (0.008), diabetes mellitus (0.017), level of alchohol consumption (0.008) and preoperative talocrural angle (TCA) > 100° (0.03) were significant predictors of poor outcomes as per AOFAS. Fracture dislocation (0.029), diabetes mellitus (0.004), preoperative TCA > 100° (0.009), female gender (0.001), age more than 60 years (0.002) and open injuries (0.034) had significantly poor outcome as per OMAS. Other parameters (smoking, hypertension, classification, syndesmotic injury, medial clear space and tibiofibular overlap) did not affect the outcome significantly. Conclusion: Our study showed that poor outcome predictors in unstable ankle fractures are age >60 years, female gender, diabetes mellitus, alcohol consumption, fracture dislocation, open fractures and pre-op TCA >100°.

ABSTRACT

The present investigation was carried out to determine the possible bioactive compounds of ethanolic extract of Elaeocarpus serratus (Elaeocarpaceae) has been subjected to GC-MS analysis. Thirty compounds were detected from the plant E. serratus. The highest peak area percentage of 19.12% was obtained by n-propanol (RT=3.04min.) and lowest peak area percentage of 2.34% was obtained by 1-propylthio-3,3,3-trifluoropropyl acetate (RT=11.57min.). The presence of various bioactive compounds confirms many aliments by traditional practitioners. However, isolation of individual phytochemical constituents may proceed to find a novel drug.

ABSTRACT

Pregnancy is precious for women it is the most memorable movement in her life. In pregnancy period the Copper, Zinc, vitamin C plays an important role for production of hemoglobin and controls the oxidative stress. The present study under taken to asses the causing Zinc, Copper, vitamin C and ROS, anemia in pregnant period. METERIALS & METHODS: 40 cases of 4th-8th month pregnant subjects were selected for the present study blood sample collected for estimation of Hemoglobin, Zinc, Copper vitamin C and ROS. Hemoglobin whole blood, Zinc, Copper, ROS serum, vitamin C heparinised blood. RESULTS: Significantly decreases the Hemoglobin (P<0.001). Zinc (P<0.001), Copper (0.001) vitamin C (P<0.001) MDA significantly elevation observed in pregnant women compare to normal healthy women’s are controls. CONCLUSION: Lowered levels of Zinc, Copper, vitaminC, Hemoglobin and elevated MDA concentration were consistently observed in pregnant women. These by abate the synthesis of hemoglobin for the lack of these biological substance which can leads to increase the oxidative stress.

ABSTRACT

Using the lectin-concanavalin-A, the tryptophan fluorescence as a function of pH was studied. The pH dependent, fluorescence intensity changes were significantly higher when excited at 305 nm, than when irradiated at 280nm. Only one tryptophanyl per monomer of concanavalin-A was available for oxidation by N-bromosuccinimide in the dimeric form at pH 4·9; no tryptophanyl could be oxidised in the demetallised dimer (pH 3·0) and native tetramer (pH 7·0). Based on this fluorescence data and the already known crystal structure data, it appears that tryptophanyl 88 in concanavalin-A may be selectively excited by 305 nm radiation.
